Here is the second of my new reptile characters, and Rooibos' life-mate.

Here is Matcha ('MOT-chuh), who is a little goofy, fun loving, and compassionate, though a little naive.

Just like Rooibos here: [link]
Matcha has the same blue commitment tattoo. It's on her left shoulder, closer to her back.

She has a slightly more conventional garment than Rooibos, inspired by a kimono. It has open shoulders (As does most clothing in this culture) since this race really values freedom of movement. It's tied with a thick belt, but also fastened with a small gold button on a thread.

As for her lantern, well... this race lives in a hollowed section of the Earth's core which is littered with crystals that can produce light on their own (which we humans have not discovered). They use these crystals to light homes and even whole cities, and the small ones are put into hollowed-out gourds or bamboo rods to carry with them in dark tunnels.

Tell me what you guys think, if you like!

Oh, wow, I love the kimono-garb and crystal-gourd lantern MUCH. =D Really cool level of detail given to her face, too-- those wide eye crests give her such a surprisingly innocent look. All earth-dwelling reptile-folks don't HAVE to be mean sons-of-guns. =D

I've always liked kimonos - hope to own one or two someday.

Oh, you notice the level of detail? I've been trying to add more detail to my characters lately. I figured the Goniurochas should be a little... "better" in quality than my Koopas and Super Nipper characters.

Yes, she'd meant to look pretty innocent - she is. A very compassionate character whose role before the main plot begins is basically operating a sort of orphanage - kind of. That'll have to be explain in-story. I'm considering writing a novel version and a comic version as well.

Oh yes, not mean sons-o'-guns at all. In fact, if they do come across some humans, they may remark on how barbaric we are in some ways.

The picture does a pretty good job of communicating the character's personality right off the bat. This setting is sound more interesting, as well.

Really? She does have that goofy, fun-loving, compassionate feel even from a simple pose like this?

As for the setting, I wouldn't mind making a quick scene of what their world looks like. Not exactly the cavernous tunnels I imagine most people are picturing. I'm actually seeing an open space deep in the earth with a "ceiling" several miles above. Most of the area has those glowing crystals covering the ceiling, though their light is blurred in appearance from the "ground". So, they have a pale greenish "sky" above that stays at the same brightness 24 hours a day, regardless of being so deep underground. There are dark areas and tunnels though.

I take it they come in all kinds of colors? :D

Yes, but mostly neautral colours. And of course, I coloured them based on the type of tea they're named after, too.

I thought she was a boy at first. :stare: Maybe I should head to sleep, haha...

Very cute, I love her outfit! 8D I like how she's like a perfect compliment to her mate.

Well, I can see how you might think that. It's especially difficult to make a reptile character appear female if you try to be realistic. Being a reptile ought to mean no hair whatsoever, including eyelashes. I mean, with most reptile species the genders are almost identical. Even the type of gecko I have - a Crested - you can barely tell, unless it lays an egg some day, or goes through some highly uneccessary and potentially dangerous test with a vet.

Glad you like the outfit, thank you! Yes, I think they match pretty well actually.

I really like that outfit design :). It's base reminds me of a Japanese Kimono, and I've always been interested in some of Japanese culture.
Light-infused crystals? Do want :).
