Faith Can Move Mountains by Retro-Specs Faith Can Move Mountains by Retro-Specs
"He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."
-Matthew 17:20

First in a series of stamps I intend to make about beliefs. This one of course is based on Jesus' quote in Matthew.

Faith is a concept, friend. I can have faith that my refrigerator light will come on when I open it. Faith transcends beliefs and cultures - it is an idea that provides hope and encouragement to those who use it. It is neither good nor evil.

What you're talking about is religion. Belief systems. Cultured indoctrine that creates misinformed and dangerous people and groups.

Don't rag on "faith" - that gives people hope to accomplish what seems impossible, during difficult times, which is why I made this stamp.

I'm amazed by the number of people who don't do that. Heck, there's oodles of things on dA I could be offended by, or at least not agree with, but I don't hunt them down just to throw up snooty, arrogant comments about how I believe my view is right, and the artist/author is an idiot due to my superior opinion. Just incredible.

Alright. Well, is this a taunt to provoke an argument from me, or make some sort of point? Because you clearly state "zero patience for BS" and that you "don't start sh*t". You ought to know that a comment like this isn't going to accomplish anything, so it seems fairly counter-productive, with your statements in mind, don't you think?

I want faith in God and His Word to be an even bigger part of my life than it has been (after my uncle read some passages out of a Christian book recently), and I wanted to fave this stamp. :)

Too often we forget how important faith actually is, which is something I was thinking about when I made this stamp.

Christians, churches and pastors seem to have a problem with "leaning on our own understanding" these days. Yes, there are legal systems in place, there are budgeting and finance matters to deal with, and these things seem to need control from a worldly perspective, not from a faith-based one, which becomes a problem.

I'd like to go have a look at that journal. Thanks for the mention!

This is evidence it can do something much more powerful. Deceive the mind.

Of course faith - that is, having a belief in something without strong evidence - is capable of deceiving the mind. Many people have done insane, harmful, and criminal things simply because of a belief.

But this - deceiving the mind - is an example of an extreme. As I'm sure you can agree, a belief, while perhaps not fully founded, can be a healthy motivator in many cases.

Look, you are very much a supporter of free thinking, of people not rely on opinion and stupid prejudices - as evidenced by your stamps and statements. So why are you making a statement like this on my stamp? Saying "Faith can cause the mind to be deceived!" could be in the same category as "Being white can cause a feeling of supremacy!" and "Being gay makes you oversexualized and want to march down the street in the nude!"

Because really...  Misguided faith has deceived minds. Being white has given people a feeling of supremacy. Being gay has caused some people to indecently expose themselves in public during a celebration of pride. But these are all extreme examples, and the people here were all wrong. Their faith, race, and orientation may have been a factor, but also shouldn't be an excuse for their actions (All of this debatable, of course. And very likely affected by bias, opinion and upbringing of the individual).

So again...  what made you want to pin my stamp and statements as an extreme? Do you believe there is enough evidence that my mind is, in fact, deceived by my faith?

Faith commonly does deceive the mind, especially when religion is involved. Why? Because religion convinces people, and encourages people, to believe in something that isn't real. On your page you sate proudly to be a fundamentalist. This infers that you have gone far in deceiving the mind and adhering to dogma. The stories of religion (With the exception of Buddhism), involve an invisible man that is all powerful and all knowing and yet can't stop suffering and can't actually convince me that he is real. It is clearly nonsense and it is through faith that the mind is deceived into believing this.

Of course. You state all this assuming you are right, and I'm certain you would say that you are.

You know already what my stand is in this, and I should hope that I appear as firm in my belief as you do in your unbelief.

All that in mind, what do you hope to accomplish here?

You've said nothing astounding, profound or intelligible beyond what can already be found on your page. I'm sure you're already convinced that my mind is lost enough that it won't change this easily.

So why? Why do you throw comments out like this? Do you hope for an argument, for your own amusement? I get comments on my work from people similar to you all the time - same atheist-themed and/or anti-Christian/Bible stamps on their page. Oddly though, I don't often see fellow Christians going to these stamps and other deviations to point out the flaws in atheists' disbelief, or start pointless arguments.

So what is it then, that draws you and your brethren to deviations like this just to make statements that we already know you believe, to an audience that won't change their position anyway?? What are you getting from this?

I'm pretty much certain that I am right. The concept of god is ridiculous. And then there's your stupid allegation that you haven't seen your fellow christians going and starting pointless arguments. If you think that, then you can't have scrolled down on many atheist stamps. Then there's that random stuff about my "page", which I will assume means my Deviantart page where I simply state that I'm a Pro-Choice atheist who supports gay rights. And what's this rubbish about my "brethren"? I haven't even fucking met any of the atheists who posted here in person, and I didn't tell them to post anything.

You didn't answer what I asked. All I really asked was about your motivation to post a comment on something you don't agree with at all, and what you hope to accomplish. It's a legitimate question. All you've done is get defensive about general things I stated, none of which were offensive toward you personally. I don't even see why you're bothered by the word "brethren" - which doesn't assert that you've met or interacted with anyone, only that you have something in common: atheism. It was just a different way to say "your fellow atheists". I just notice patterns in things atheists often post of Christian-themed work.

Speaking of patterns, I notice that in your own comments you're getting less respectful, feeling a need to curse and call my allegations "stupid". So what would this come to if we kept an argument up? A downright juvenile tossing of expletives back and forth? Again, what is the point? I doubt either of us will be convinced of anything.

I'm only stating from my own experience, regarding these comments on atheist/Christian themed work, this is based on my own experience. Even yesterday I went through ten atheist-themed stamps, and found maybe 3-4 comments from Christians altogether, none of which started a long-winded argument. One was even a compliment. And on Christian stamps, I've seen many paragraph-long comments trying to point out what's "wrong" with the person who made the stamp. Can't you accept the fact that we believe in God, and see His Son as our Saviour, and leave it well enough alone? Why does it bother you this much?

But anyway, this is getting much too long. You never did state what you hope to accomplish in talking to me, and I feel as though you'll get less and less respectful the longer we talk. Coupling that with the fact that you came to my page, not me to yours, this is tantamount to bullying. We don't we just agree to disagree and cut it off here?
