Well, $585 later, both the girls are spayed and doing well. In fact, oddly enough they are both more affectionate than before. I woke up yesterday morning at 6:00 am with both of them crawling onto my chest to sleep, purring away like lawnmowers.

I once read online that having a cat spayed or neutered is like having them never grow up - like they will forget about all those survival instincts and need to reproduce, and just spend their lives sort of like children, depending on their "parents". In many ways, these girls have become such a huge part of our lives - when they were away at the vet's for 8 hours, the house felt quite empty with no kitties around.

Well, it's amazing how close you can get to your pets. We just got the cats a new climbing tree and a fancy little water fountain, and they seem quite happy with both. The operation went perfectly, and both seem to be recovering without a hitch.
